Frame Technologies is a self-build timber frame specialist and was established to meet the precise requirements of self-builders. Over the last decade, we have continued to develop our business with the needs of the self-builder in mind.

Our aim is to make life as easy for the self-builder as possible, as we help them to realise their dream home. We pride ourselves on being a ‘one stop shop’ with one point of contact and a personal touch.

With this in mind, we’re able to provide a full service offering, where self-builders can either come to us simply for a timber frame, or they can come to us for the complete package.

We have a package management option in many locations, working with our build partners to include foundations, external watertight shells and full airtightness packages. By joining multiple aspects of the build programme together, it is possible to ensure that everything works in harmony – which can be a challenge when a building is trying to reach a number of different objectives at once. This option allows for value engineering and can lead to multiple benefits, including improved thermal performance.

What is the process for working with Frame Technologies?

We can work with you from preliminary drawings, right through to completion of the house – and beyond! We have many clients that come back to us for additional extensions or new projects once a build is complete.

You should get in touch as early in your project as possible. As a self-build timber frame specialist, we can assist with design, building regulations and planning challenges, so if you come to us from the outset, it could prove much more cost effective.

When you get in touch, provide as much information as you can about your objectives. If you’re in the planning stages of your project, you should send early planning drawings, elevation drawings and floor plans to get a budget cost.

If you’re in later stages of your project and your build has received planning approval and is at building regulation stage, please send dimensional drawings, section elevations and site plans.

Cost is one of the most important factors in a project, so it’s important to be clear about your budget. It’s also helpful to understand your motivations. If sustainability is important to you; you’re aiming to build to Passivhaus standard, or you have specifications that you would like to incorporate into your build, be sure to share this.

After you’ve had discussions about your brief and specifications, we will offer you different products to suit your individual requirements.

Remember, the quote you receive will vary from company to company as some suppliers will provide an overall cost, whereas others will contribute a more detailed document to show exactly what you are paying for. Seek advice from a self-build timber frame specialist and make sure you know what each quote covers before making your decision.

When we’ve agreed a quote and negotiated the specification, the design will be frozen and you’ll be ready to go.

We will start work on building regulation drawings if these are still outstanding, and you typically wait between 4-6 weeks for them.

Don’t get started on site and never start digging foundations until you have the soleplate or setting out drawings. Once these are approved, we will first run up prelim drawings, followed by manufacturing drawings while the foundations are constructed.

In terms of timing, the turnaround from order placement to delivery is, on average, 10-12 weeks.

We are a self-build timber frame specialist and have worked on a wide range of fully bespoke projects. Take a look at our gallery to see some examples!
